Mayor Alejandro Navarro Prieto presented the candidacy of Torrejón de Ardoz for European City of Sport 2026 this morning. The event took place at Hotel Asset with the presence of the Evaluation Committee, led by Gian Francesco Lupattelli, President of the European Association of Capitals and Cities of Sport (ACES Europe).
On May 23, 2025, in the presentation of Torrejón’s candidacy, Mayor Alejandro Navarro Prieto highlighted, «It is a great honor for me, as the Mayor of Torrejón de Ardoz, to present our candidacy to be recognized as the European City of Sport 2026. Our city, with a rich history and a strong commitment to sports, prides itself on offering top-notch sports facilities and having a vibrant community passionate about physical activity and well-being.»
Torrejón de Ardoz has made significant investments in improving and expanding its sports infrastructure, ensuring that all citizens, from the youngest to the oldest, have access to suitable spaces for practicing various disciplines. As a result of this commitment, we continue to invest in the future with five major projects that will strengthen our position as a sports reference and will involve an investment of over 20 million euros by the Torrejón de Ardoz City Council in the years 2025 and 2026:
• Construction of the Great Sports Hall – New Torrejón Soto Henares Sports City, which will have four 40×20 courts designed for the practice of multiple indoor sports, offering more quality spaces for our athletes.
• Construction of an 11-a-side soccer field parallel to the federation field, which will include two transverse 7-a-side soccer fields. Expansion of the Joaquín Blume Sports City.
• Covering various sports courts in the Joaquín Blume Sports City, CEIP Severo Ochoa.
• New complex of the Royal Football Federation of Madrid, turning our city into the Headquarters of Madrid Football, which will have a futsal pavilion with two courts, a soccer field, two 7-a-side soccer fields, a beach soccer field, and a football museum.
• Infrastructure Maintenance Plan 2025-2026: Improvement of the Torrejón de Ardoz Athletics Track.
In addition, Torrejón de Ardoz has developed innovative programs that promote inclusion and equality in sports, ensuring that all individuals, regardless of age, gender, or ability, can enjoy the benefits of an active and healthy life. Sport is a powerful tool for social cohesion and personal development, and we work tirelessly to create an environment where everyone can thrive.

Torrejón will be one of the first cities to allocate more budget to sports, specifically over 20 million euros.»
