The Town Hall of Torrejón de Ardoz has decided to close all the parks in the city this Saturday, March 8, due to the warning of strong gusts of wind. It has also recommended avoiding areas near the banks of the Henares River due to the possibility of overflowing.

According to the State Meteorological Agency, there will be strong gusts of wind today, which is why the Torrejón City Council has closed all its parks, including Parque Europa, as stated in a press release.

Furthermore, the Council has recommended avoiding walking in wooded areas, under ledges, balconies, windows, and walls, as well as collecting awnings and removing objects from windows and balconies that may fall due to the wind.

On the other hand, it has recommended avoiding areas near the Henares River due to the possibility of overflowing. The Torrejón City Council has made this recommendation due to the alert for persistent rain in the Community of Madrid, as explained in a statement sent to the media. Additionally, the Security and Emergencies Agency of the Community of Madrid (ASEM 112) has activated phase 0, the lowest level of emergency, of the INUNCAM Plan which aims to address all emergency situations due to the risk of flooding.

Therefore, the Torrejón City Council has recommended avoiding flood-prone areas and not crossing water currents.

On the other hand, the Community of Madrid has reported that forest agents are monitoring the most affected areas of the Henares, Lozoya, and Tajuña rivers. In addition, emergency services are monitoring the situation in case action is needed.

In a social media post, the Council has stated that this precautionary message is issued after discussions with the Security and Emergencies Agency 112.

«It is advised not to go to the banks of the Jarama River in the area closest to La Poveda wastewater treatment plant in the next few hours to prevent possible accidents due to the rise in water levels, which has overflowed the usual channel in some points,» the Council noted.
