Witnesses to the wedding in Torrejón de Ardoz (Madrid) that ended with four fatalities and nine injuries due to a multiple hit-and-run have denied in court on Wednesday that the accused, Micael D.S.M., ‘the Portuguese’, had signaled with the lights of his vehicle before plowing into the crowd.
«I didn’t have time to react (…) There was no warning,» said one of the groom’s family members.

One of the seriously injured has stated in court that the scene resembled «a terrorist attack with dead bodies everywhere and blood everywhere,» indicating that the accused harassed the guests during the reception by dancing with women and filming people without permission.
The injured still suffer severe physical and psychological consequences from the incident.
The prosecutor is seeking a 226-year prison sentence for four counts of murder (25 years for each) and nine counts of attempted murder (14 years for each).
The prosecution lawyers are requesting life imprisonment with possibility of parole due to the fatal hit-and-run with multiple victims.

The first to testify was the mother of the wedding groom, who was one of the seriously injured in the hit-and-run.

According to her account, at one point during the reception, there was «a murmur» among the attendees and they went outside out of «fear» of what was happening.
«I don’t remember anything else. In the hospital, I saw people around me crying,» recounted Victoria, who currently suffers consequences such as hearing loss in one ear.
The witness asserts that no one was carrying weapons during the celebration and denies that her family threatened the accused or his children, contrary to the assailant’s version.
Victoria’s husband mentioned that the accused had been annoying the guests by dancing with their wives and filming attendees without permission.
Once outside, he heard the engine revving and saw many people being run over, including his wife.
«He took the car, floored the accelerator as much as he could, and ran over everyone,» he lamented.
