The Low Emission Zone of Torrejón de Ardoz has already come into effect, mandatory for municipalities with more than 50,000 inhabitants as established by the Law approved by the current Government of Spain. The vehicle access control systems are already operational, and fines range from 100 to 500 euros, depending on the offense.
Access restrictions to the LEZ are based on the environmental labels of DGT vehicles. Vehicles with «0», «ECO», «C», and «B» labels have access. Vehicles without a label or with an «A» label will not have access, except for exceptions specified in the LEZ Ordinance.
The Torrejón LEZ affects the old town and is delimited by Avenida de las Fronteras, Avenida Virgen de Loreto, Avenida de la Constitución, and Calle Madrid.
The LEZ is operational 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, allowing access to loading and unloading vehicles from 7 to 9 am, requiring authorization as per the model.
Who can access and who cannot access the LEZ
- Those registered residents in Torrejón de Ardoz or whose vehicle is registered in Torrejón de Ardoz (IVTM), even without a label or with an «A» label, can access the LEZ without requiring any authorization.
- Workers within the LEZ, not registered in the municipality, must request authorization to access the area, as per the authorization model provided by the city council.
- Those who are not registered in Torrejón de Ardoz and whose vehicle does not have a label or has an «A» label can access the LEZ without requiring any authorization, as long as they go to a public parking.
Exceptions for accessing with a vehicle without a label or with an «A» label
Other exceptions provided by the regulations include access to private parkings, reduced mobility, essential public services/schools, emergencies, and special situations for vehicles without a label or with an «A» label, subject to authorization request.
Likewise, those who have to access the LEZ urgently with an unauthorized vehicle must communicate the urgency motivation afterward and justify it documentarily. In this case, the complaint will not be processed.
Amount of fines for infractions
Violations of the ordinance can be minor, serious, or very serious, punishable by fines of 100 euros for minor offenses, 101 to 200 euros for serious offenses, and 201 to 500 euros for very serious offenses. Access to the LEZ by unauthorized vehicles without authorization will result in a fine of up to 200€.
