La Feria del Libro Antiguo y de Ocasión en Torrejón de Ardoz

The Antique and Second-Hand Book Fair will be held until April 13 in the Plaza Mayor of Torrejón de Ardoz, as part of a Month of Letters with a wide-ranging program that will run until May 6. The opening hours for the fair stands will be from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Thousands of volumes will be on display for sale, including classic books, history, mythology, art, children’s publications, out-of-print books, restored texts, and second-hand books. Additionally, it will feature over 80 writers, many of them local, as well as various associations such as the Association of Writers of Madrid, Oceans of Ink Association, and Literary Heart Association, who will be signing copies of their books.

Regarding the Antique and Second-Hand Book Fair, Mayor Alejandro Navarro stated that it is «one of the most prominent events within the activities organized by the City of Torrejón as part of the Month of Letters, which places reading as the main focus with the aim of promoting it among all Torrejon residents.»

Furthermore, other highlights of this literary period will include two interesting literary encounters. On April 9, at 7:00 p.m., Carlos Sobera will present his biography, «Against the Current,» at the Casa de la Cultura, and on May 6, also at 7:00 p.m., Javier Sierra, winner of the 2017 Planeta Prize, will present his new novel, «The Master Plan.»

In addition, the XXV School Literary Contest will take place on April 25 at 7:00 p.m. at the Pabellón José Antonio Paraíso, along with children’s storytelling sessions at municipal libraries, the book exchange «One Book for One Book» also at the libraries, the Recreation of May 2, scheduled for May 1 at 12:00 p.m. in the Plaza Mayor, the new «Open Mic,» more book presentations by local authors, cinema, conferences, and puppet shows every Saturday in April at 12 p.m. in the Plaza Mayor, among other activities, complete the attractive offerings of the Month of Letters.

It is worth highlighting the continuous reading of Don Quixote organized by the Atenea Association on April 23 starting at 11:00 a.m. at the Casa de la Cultura, as well as other novelties such as «Tik Tok Books,» where Torrejon TikTokers Miguel Aguilera and Diego García will interview library users and ask for literary recommendations. Additionally, on March 27, there will be a poetic intervention titled «A Tree, A Poem» at Parque Europa, conducted by the poetry workshop «We Have the Word» from the ASTOR Association, and by the Ada Byron Women’s Association, there will be a Reading of Love Letters, letters that Torrejon residents have been depositing in the love mailbox in the lobby of the Abogados de Atocha Multipurpose Center, addressed to partners, parents, grandparents, pets, and love in general.

Councilor for Culture, José Antonio Moreno, emphasized that «the Torrejón de Ardoz Second-Hand Book Fair has already established itself as a top cultural event in the city, especially for book lovers. Additionally, it serves as a platform for writers to gain visibility, connect with their closest readers, and promote their books and literary creation, contributing culture to the city.»

Lastly, during the week of April 21-27, participating bookstores will offer a 5% discount on book purchases to customers who bring a used book, and on April 23, they will provide a 10% discount. The collected books will be donated to an NGO. The participating bookstores are:
