Prisión provisional para el autor del atropello mortal en la boda de Torrejón

The Provincial Court of Madrid will begin the trial on Monday of the driver accused of fatally running over four guests attending a wedding in Torrejón de Ardoz (Madrid) in November 2022, and attempting to kill nine others, for which the Public Prosecutor’s Office is requesting a 226-year prison sentence.

The trial will commence on Monday, May 12, with the formation of the jury. It won’t be until Tuesday when the testimonies begin, in an oral hearing that will extend until June 6, with the accused testifying at the end, according to the script obtained by EFE, which is provisional and subject to possible variations as the trial progresses.

It is expected that dozens of witnesses, national police officers involved in the investigation, as well as civil guards, local police, and a dozen experts will testify.

Security will be reinforced both publicly and privately at the judicial headquarters and its surroundings to prevent potential issues between the families of the accused and the victims, as informed by legal sources to EFE.

In the indictment issued by the Court of Instruction number 4 of Torrejón de Ardoz -in September 2024- the judge attributed to Micael D.S.M., known as El Portugués, four counts of murder for the four deceased and nine counts of attempted murder for the injured at the wedding between two Roma families, holding the Consortium of Insurance Compensation directly responsible.

It also decreed that El Portugués remain in provisional custody, under the terms agreed upon when he was taken into custody in November 2022, shortly after fleeing the scene.

Prosecutor requests 226 years in prison for the accused of killing 4 people at a wedding

The Public Prosecutor’s Office is seeking a total of 226 years in prison for these same four counts of murder (25 for each) and nine counts of attempted murder (14 for each).

The Public Prosecutor recounts that in the early hours of November 6, 2022 El Portugués attended a wedding celebration between two families at the El Rancho restaurant in Torrejón de Ardoz, accompanied by two of his minor children and two nephews.

During the celebration, one of the minors was involved in an incident with one of the guests, leading to the accused being asked to leave with his companions.

It was then, according to the document, that the accused confronted several guests inside and outside the establishment, and then headed to the car parked nearby, with his children and nephews.

At one point, he started the car and accelerated «knowing the presence of the people gathered there due to the events and with the full intention of causing their death or assuming the possibility of it happening,» says the Public Prosecutor’s Office.

Four of those hit -two men, a woman, and a 17-year-old- died, and nine others were injured.

On behalf of the victims of the groom’s family -including two deceased- the lawyer Jaime Sanz de Bremond requests life imprisonment with the possibility of parole.

«They didn’t move because they didn’t want to,» says one of the key figures in the mass hit-and-run incident in Torrejón

This same punishment is requested by lawyer Juan Manuel Medina, who acts as legal counsel representing the family of the deceased minor.

The defense has expressed disagreement with the accusations and in their provisional conclusion document, they request that he be charged with four counts of reckless homicide and nine counts of reckless injury, with full exemptions of insurmountable fear and state of necessity.
