This week, air conditioning has been installed in all classrooms of the first 3 public schools in Torrejón de Ardoz, the only city in Spain where its students and teachers have started to enjoy air conditioning in a historic commitment to public education. The installation has been completed in the public schools La Zarzuela, Ramón Carande, and Uno de Mayo, and next week it will be carried out in Vicente Aleixandre and Miguel Hernández, and in the coming days in Giner de los Ríos and Antonio Machado. In the remaining centers, to complete the 21 public schools, the air conditioning of all their classrooms will be gradually installed in 2025 and 2026.
Torrejón de Ardoz, June 3, 2025. The mayor, Alejandro Navarro Prieto, and the councilor of Urban Cleaning, Works, Administration, and Contracting, Valeriano Díaz, have supervised the result of the air conditioning installation at the public school Uno de Mayo, accompanied by the center’s director, Cristina Pascual.
«All schools where the Colevacaciones program is taught will have air conditioning in their classrooms this summer so that students attending this program can do so in the best comfort conditions,» said the mayor.
A total of 7 million euros will be invested in the 21 public schools in the city, including the Iker Casillas Special Education School. The 1,630 air conditioning units will be low consumption, provide both cold and heat, and the necessary splits will be installed according to the surface of each classroom, operating with the support of the electrical energy generated by the solar panels installed in the centers to ensure that the vast majority of them operate with alternative renewable energies.

BMS are installed for centralized intelligent control of the temperature conditions in schools by the City Council.
Valeriano Díaz stated, «With the implementation of high-efficiency heating and cooling machines and the use of compact units with low noise level and safety, we manage to reduce the number of hours of use of conventional boilers, reducing gas dependence, with a reduction of 930,119.68 kWh of thermal energy.»
