Consejos para prevenir los efectos del calor en Torrejón de Ardoz

Given the high temperatures that are being recorded these days, the City Council of Torrejón de Ardoz wants to remind residents of a series of useful tips and recommendations with the aim of preventing the well-known «heat strokes» and the effects that excessive sun exposure can cause, especially in the most vulnerable groups of the population, such as older people, sick individuals, and children under four years old, as these can have very negative effects on health. If you need any additional information or if you experience any physical discomfort, do not hesitate to go to your Health Center or call the emergency phone number 112.

Torrejón de Ardoz, June 20, 2025. It is important to avoid exercising and exposing yourself to the sun during the central hours of the day, drink plenty of water, wear light clothing, preferably made of natural fibers and light colors, hats, sunglasses, and sunscreen, and stay in ventilated or air-conditioned spaces. Furthermore, avoiding alcoholic or sugary drinks, consuming plenty of vegetables and fruits, and having light meals are other practical recommendations that will help reduce the effects of heat during these days.

Also, especially in the case of older people, do not hesitate to ask for help if you feel unwell due to the heat. If you are over 65 and live alone, it is important that someone contacts you twice a day. If you experience any physical discomfort at any time or need more information, do not hesitate to go to your Health Center or call 112. In any of these places, you will be informed about the harmful effects of heat, especially in the case of sick individuals, children, and older people.

• Drink enough fluids, even if you are not thirsty.
• Avoid sun exposure during the central hours of the day, from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
