Torrejón de Ardoz celebrated Tree Day by planting 150 trees in Zarzuela Park with the participation of 761 students from the city. Mayor Alejandro Navarro Prieto and Environment Councilor Esperanza Fernández de Mesa were present at this tree planting event, marking the beginning of the spring reforestation campaign in the streets and parks of the city. This initiative is part of the Reforestation Plan for the 2023-2027 term, aiming to plant 10,000 new trees in the city, with 3,871 already planted.
Torrejón de Ardoz, March 28, 2025. Each school planted an average of 10 trees in different areas of the park. Municipal gardeners were present to assist, guide, and explain to the students the importance of their planting efforts.
The urban tree cover has also been reinforced in public spaces and numerous parks to enhance oxygen production and provide shade during the summer months. The tree species planted in this urban reforestation project include Olive, Hackberry, Walnut, Sweetgum, Hornbeam, Birch, Cypress, Maple, Robinia, Mulberry, Plane trees, Privet, Flowering Crabapple, Holly, Ash, Pear, Photinia, and Palm trees, among others.
«This tree planting initiative and those planned for the coming years will improve the city’s air quality and contribute to the fight against climate change, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda,» stated Mayor Alejandro Navarro Prieto.
Environment Councilor added, «The educational aspect of this tree planting event involving our students is crucial. It represents a significant step in environmental education, raising awareness among the younger generation about environmental conservation and contributing to the enhancement of the air quality in Torrejón de Ardoz.»
