Another year Torrejón de Ardoz Celebrates its famousDay of Tortil. It is one of the most rooted traditions of the municipality, which serves as an excuse for Torrejoneros to gather with family and friends around a tortilla. It is celebrated in the right place and there will be multiple activities for both adults and children.
This year will see a new edition of thePepín Fernández Omelette Contest in which 16-year-olds can participate. They can do so by presenting the tortilla and the recipe in writing by 12; The originality of the tortilla (ingredients, flavor, and presentation) will be appreciated as an essential requirement using egg and potato.
This contest, which has beenHolidays since 2003 pays tribute to Pepín Fernández, an entrepreneur who has promoted the commercial and industrial development of the city with companies like Los Canceros Hostel, which later became the home of Torrejón.
Another notable activity is the Exhibition of the local police canine group from Torrejón de Ardoz at the Plaza de Toros, at 11:30, and for the little ones, between 11 am and 7 pm, theTortilla Train.
For the little ones, there will be activities such as Balloon Twisting, Target Shooting, Fire Trucks, Puppet Shows, Dance, Chess, and children’s activities with inflatable castles, mini karts, mini golf, and workshops for children.
It is said that the celebration of Tortilla Day in Torrejón de Ardoz dates back to the 15th century. Its origin, although uncertain, is said to be related to a festival in tribute to planting potatoes. Another hypothesis considers that it is related to the arrival of spring.
