Libertad provisional para policía detenido por estrangular a magrebí en intento de robo

The judge of Investigation Court number 1 of Torrejón de Ardoz has ordered the release with precautionary measures of the Madrid Municipal Police officer arrested in Torrejón de Ardoz after strangling a Maghrebi man around 35 years old who had tried to steal his phone, as reported by legal sources.

The officer is currently under investigation for the alleged commission of a crime of manslaughter through negligence. Therefore, the judge has ordered the withdrawal of his passport and also his obligation to go to the judicial headquarters to sign every Monday.

Both the charges and the precautionary measures taken are of an initial nature and could be modified as the corresponding investigative actions are carried out within the judicial investigation.

At this procedural stage, we are awaiting the first autopsy report from the forensic services to determine the exact cause of death.

Investigation Court number 1 has deferred to Investigation Court number 4 of the same locality, the body that was on duty at the time of the incident and, therefore, the one that carried out the removal of the body and will be competent for the investigation.

The events took place around 11:15 pm on Tuesday in the vicinity of number 20 Pesquera Street, located in the old town area. Two Madrid Municipal Police officers in plain clothes were walking in the area when they were surprised by two Maghrebis who attempted to steal their mobile phone.

The officers chased after one of the assailants, whom one of the policemen managed to catch and immobilize on the ground using the ‘sleeper hold’ technique until the National Police patrol arrived.

Upon their arrival, they handcuffed the Maghrebi, who, however, seemed to be in a semi-conscious state.

At this point, a Torrejón de Ardoz Local Police patrol arrived at the scene and, with a defibrillator, tried to revive the Maghrebi, who was in cardiorespiratory arrest.

Later, SUMMA 112 personnel arrived at the scene and performed 30 minutes of resuscitation maneuvers on the victim, who nevertheless succumbed to death.
