Witnesses of the wedding in Torrejón de Ardoz (Madrid) that ended with four fatalities from a hit-and-run have recounted on Tuesday in court that the accused got into his car and accelerated «abruptly» after having an altercation with several guests, running over several people and causing a «completely intentional massacre.»
Family members of the groom have stated that they heard a sudden acceleration that «took down» numerous guests, resulting in four deaths and nine injuries, describing this tragic event as a «horror and intentional massacre» caused by Micael D.S.M., known as ‘El Portugués’, who is facing a 226-year sentence requested by the Prosecutor’s Office.
The second day of the trial held at the Audiencia de Madrid, which has heightened security due to fears of altercations between the parties, has been marked by the testimonies of the groom’s closest relatives, such as his parents, who were separated by a screen with the accused and have ruled out that the fatal hit-and-run was an accident: «When someone is going to do something intentional, they don’t give a warning,» the groom’s father asserted in response to the prosecutor’s questions.
Therefore, they denied that ‘El Portugués’ had warned by honking the horn or flashing the lights of the car before hitting the guests. «No one would think of the macabre reaction of committing such a murder,» he stated. The fatal hit-and-run, which he described as a «disproportionate horror,» injured his son in the leg – «he said to me: ‘dad, I’m dying’,» he recalled – left his wife unconscious, and ended the lives of his mother and brother, as explained during his testimony.
Likewise, contrary to the defense’s claims, the groom’s family members denied that ‘El Portugués’ was invited to the wedding, which they estimate had around 500 guests (250 from each family), and they also rejected the existence of altercations with weapons or knives against the accused: «I never saw that,» one of them emphasized. «I woke up alone in a hospital,» another witness stated.
The groom’s mother also testified, stating that she remembers «very little» because she was hit by the car, which left her unconscious for a period: «I flew… I woke up alone in a hospital,» she recounted. As a result of these injuries, she suffered contusions in the femur and hip, as well as a punctured lung. One of her injured children added that he saw her with «a lot of blood» on her body.
The witnesses unanimously specified that the accused was asked to leave the wedding because he «had caused a disturbance,» to which he refused in a «very rude manner,» leading to one of his sons assaulting the groom’s father.
